外国语言研究所在校级重点学科“外国语言学和应用语言学”基础上成立。研究所的成立以活跃学术气氛，提高我院外国语言理论和应用研究水平，整合和充分发挥现有科研资源，提高外语人才培养质量和档次，加强对外学术交流和合作为主要目标。

目前，研究成员主要由具有高职称或高学历专职教师组成；以理论语言学与对比语言学、翻译理论与实践和二语习得为主要研究方向；以硕士生导师为召集人，定期开展学术活动。同时，我们热忱与国内外专家、同行进行学术交流活动。

Institute of Foreign Languages is a research institute established on the basis of the foundation of Foreign Linguistics and Applied Linguistics－a key discipline in Hubei Normal University. Main purposes of founding the institute are to create a favorable environment for scientific research in the college, to help to construct a high level of research in theories of Linguistics and Applied Linguistics, to integrate and optimize present teaching and research resources to bring their potentials into full play, to upgrade the level and quality of the student training, and to strengthen international communication and cooperation.

Present faculty of the institute comprises of full teachers holding senior professional titles or degrees. The main research of the institute is oriented to the following fields and subfields: Theoretical Linguistics and Comparative Linguistics, Translation Theories and Practice, and SLA. The institute appoints MA supervisors team conveners to hold academic activities regularly. Meanwhile, we are pleased to invite guests, home or aboard, of the same interests or occupations to hold academic exchange activities with us. We will be more pleased to be invited.
